The word ‘spring’ has many meanings. It’s the beginning of a water source, it’s to suddenly jump into action, it’s to originate or arise from, it’s an elastic device. Yet, of course, use the word with a capital S and it becomes so much more.
Spring is the beginning of better weather, brighter days, and a time when we should feel like jumping up and going outside. Spring also brings with it connotations of rebirth, renewal and rejuvenation but these ideas are far from our thoughts at the moment as the whole world grapples with the tragedy that is Covid-19. At a time when we are normally venturing out to soak up the better weather, we are instead worried about all that is happening to us, to our family and friends, and to other nations around the world.
For a small handmade craft businesses like mine, Winter is the time for making, preparing, and looking forward to the start of the show season that normally launches in Spring. It’s about looking forward to a hive of activity and this year, for the first time in Roundabout’s five year history, I was on track to have my new collections ready - reversible dresses, shorts and new summer trousers. I felt organised and excited.
Now with the relentless speed of Covid-19 we have moved into completely new territory with each business, each person, each country trying to navigate their way through. Yes, it is disappointing to receive the news that one event after another has been cancelled or postponed but everyday I hear of other ways in with other people are having their world’s turned upside down and my heart goes out to them. So, I will simply look forward and start planning for the Autumn when we all hope that life will start to return to normal.
In the meantime, I know my customers have far more pressing matters on their minds than shopping – people are losing jobs, losing relatives, and many businesses are facing a huge challenge to survive.
In the face of all this uncertainty though, there are still constants that we can celebrate such as births, birthdays and anniversaries. We can still mark milestones that shape our lives and bring us together. So, as long as I am well and the post office is open, should you need to send a baby gift or a birthday present, I will send it wrapped in tissue and with your special message on a gift card at no extra charge.
Your can order online as normal using the code FREESHIPPING for free postage and packing to any UK address. Then email or call me with the details of the recipient’s name and your message. There are some lovely gift sets on the website and if you can’t see what you’re looking for or need some help, please call me and I will be more than happy to chat through what you’d like.
In the face of everything that’s going on in the world, I hope that you can take advantage of the arrival of Spring in some way however small. Whether it is just listening to the birds singing or the breeze blowing in our wonderfully quiet skies. I am going to try and appreciate nature telling us that Spring has sprung and perhaps Spring will give us hope and optimism to guide us through this tragedy and help us come out the other side.
Stay safe and well
